The descartes application allows you to:

1. Perform an automatic segmentation of a color image.
2. Merge or split regions interactively.
3. Smooth some regions (with or without loss of informations).
4. Zoom regions
5. Analyze the geometrical/photometrical/topological features of regions
6. Save some regions of an image in separated files
